Wood-Mizer built an $8.4 million, 85,000-square-foot factory at the Batesville Commerce Park in 2015. The company began producing sawmill equipment there in early 2016, employing more than 100 people. The Batesville Herald Tribune reports that the company told the Batesville Advisory Plan Commission last week that it has grown, but is now out of room for even more growth. Wood-Mizer is asking for 10 neighboring acres to be rezoned from Residential-2 to Industrial-2. The plan commission has given the zone change a unanimous favorable recommendation, but the Batesville City Council has the final say on the rezone request. The commission did unanimously approve of a request to subdivide the 10-acre tract. WoodMizer director of facilities Jeff Heidlage said the factory expansion could be 30,000 to 40,000 additional square feet.
