Man Breaks Into Home, Arrested On 21st Birthday

(Batesville, Ind.) - A Milan man spent the day after his 21st birthday in jail after breaking into a Batesville home while the residents slept.

 

The forced entry occurred last Friday morning. Police were called to the home at 418 South Main Street around 6:40 a.m.

 

The residents woke up in their upstairs bedroom to the sound of their dog barking. They ventured downstairs where they found an unknown male yelling at the dog.

 

Batesville Police say the man, Cody T. John had been out celebrating his birthday the night before drinking alcohol. Sometime overnight he forced his way into the home.

 

John told officers he lived nearby, but that information was not able to be confirmed.

 

Cody John was arrested and booked into the Ripley County Jail on charges of Residential Entry (Class D felony) and Criminal Mischief (Class B misdemeanor).

On Friday, February 17, 2012 at approximately 6:40am, Batesville Police responded to a residence located at 418 South Main Street, in Batesville for a report of an unknown male inside the residence.

 

Batesville Police Sgt. Doug Wolfer responded and located Cody T. John, age 21, of Milan, inside the residence. The home owners reported they were sleeping in an upstairs bedroom when one of them woke up after hearing their dog barking. When she went downstairs, she observed Cody John inside her residence yelling at her dog. 

 

Further investigation revealed Cody John had been out celebrating the night before for his twenty first birthday and had been drinking alcohol. That at some point during the night he had forced entry into the residence through a side door. John’s later stated he lived nearby, but this information was unable to be confirmed.     

 

Cody John’s was arrested and taken to the Ripley County Jail for Residential Entry, a class D felony and Criminal Mischief, a class B misdemeanor.
