Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch Announces Preserving Women's Legacy Grants

Preserving Women's Legacy Grants gives the opportunity to bring attention to women’s history throughout the state of Indiana.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Yesterday, Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch announced a new grant program that gives Main Street communities the opportunity to preserve locations that highlight women’s history across Indiana.

Crouch serves as chair of the Indiana Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission.

“We’re excited to provide a new way to empower Main Street communities to discover, preserve and activate locations that shine a light on women’s history in Indiana. We want to capture how women have led and shaped their cities and towns,” Crouch said. “The goal is to find the inspiring and hidden places and stories that can be shared for generations to come.”

These Preserving Women's Legacy Grants aims to support historic preservation work, public art and other projects that commemorate Indiana women’s history and promote visits to Main Street communities.

Honoring these projects will create a lasting legacy of Indiana's commemoration of the 100th anniversary of women winning the right to vote.

Indiana Women's Suffrage Centennial grants will provide matching funds to selected community applicants from $15,000 to $40,000.

Main Street communities can apply for these grants at the Indiana Women’s Suffrage Centennial website.

While projects should be tied to women’s history in Indiana, they do not need to be related to women’s suffrage.

You can find full grant guidelines posted on the website.

Applications must be submitted by May 15.

President and CEO of Indiana Humanities, Keira Amstutz, said the women’s suffrage centennial gives the opportunity to bring attention to women’s history throughout the state of Indiana.

“We are humbled and proud to have this opportunity to fund and amplify the preservation of Indiana women’s history,” said Amstutz, who also is a member of the Indiana Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission. “We’re delighted communities across Indiana will have the chance to receive funding to recognize their own momentous places and events.”

Preserving Women’s Legacy Grants are presented by Indiana Humanities and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

Questions about the grants can be directed to George Hanlin, director of grants at Indiana Humanities, at ghanlin@indianahumanities.org or call 317-616-9784.
