(Brookville, Ind.) - The pursuit of a new world record – one swing at a time – has begun in Brookville. Organizers are trying to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest wiffle ball game ever played. The event is serving as a fundraiser for Safe Passage, Inc., a shelter for victims of domestic violence located in Batesville. The organization serves five southeastern Indiana counties. The first pitch was thrown at about 7:00 a.m. Friday at a makeshift ball field at Brook Hill Golf Course. The current world record is about 25 ½ hours. This group is trying to shatter that by going 36 straight hours, which would have the game end around 7:00 p.m. Saturday. The weather isn’t likely to force any rain delays. The National Weather Service forecasts sunny skies with highs in the 80s Friday and Saturday. For more information about how you can support the record attempt or make a donation to Safe Passage, read this earlier Eagle 99.3 news article. “Every single penny of any donation received will go to Safe Passage,” says State Representative Jud McMillin (R-Brookville), who is among those putting the record attempt together.
