L'Burg Woman Accused Of Theft Claims She Was Drugged And Robbed

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A woman who claims she was drugged and robbed is accused of taking money from her place of employment. On September 19, Lawrenceburg Police were dispatched to Dearborn County Hospital where a female, identified as Samantha M. Brewer, had been treated for a possible overdose. Brewer told police that a women walked into her condo on the 300 block of Riverscape Court earlier that day around 5:00 p.m., and that she didn't remember much after that. According to a probable cause affidavit, Brewer said she was the manager of a restaurant in Lawrenceburg, and when she left work on September 18 she had a change order for around $700. Brewer added that she never made it to the bank because her landlord needed to make some repairs to her condo. Brewer told police she believed the change order money and a large amount of loose change she had been collecting from tips had been stolen. After further investigation, police say Brewer and three others, including the woman in her condo, drove to Ohio to buy heroin and crack. Police believe the drugs were purchased with Brewer's tip money. The group then returned to Brewer's condo and allegedly used the drugs. It was at that time that Brewer may have overdosed. According to lab results from DCH ER, Brewer tested positive for opiates, benzodianzepines, cocaine and methadone. Police say they located syringes behind Brewer's residence, and garbage bags in the parking lot that contained more syringes and a silver spoon with a white residue. In addition, an ATM receipt with an account number that belongs to Brewer was found in the trash. Brewer's employer talked to police on September 22, saying he found two deposits on August 31 and September 1 for $1,426 and $1,837 that had been counted and taken by Brewer. An in-house deposit ledger showed that Brewer signed and initialed that she counted and took the deposit to the bank, but deposit records indicate the money was never deposited in the bank. The employer added that at the time of the deposits in question, Brewer asked for a week off of work for personal reasons. Based on the investigation, Brewer has been charged with Maintaining a Common Nuisance (Level 6 felony), two counts of Theft Value $750-$50,000 (Level 6 felony), Theft (Class A misdemeanor) and False Informing (Class A misdemeanor). This is not Brewer's first run-in with the law. In 2010, Brewer pleaded guilty to charges of burglary, attempted burglary and child endangerment in Hamilton County.
