Katelyn Markham's Death Ruled A Homicide

Katelyn Markham

(Franklin County, Ind.) - The death of Katelyn Markham – the Fairfield, Ohio woman whose remains were discovered in Franklin County in April – has been ruled a homicide.

It was two years ago today that Markham was last seen alive. The 21-year-old was officially reported missing from her Ohio home on August 14. There was no trace of her until a man searching for scrap metal discovered her decomposed, skeletal remains on April 7 along Big Cedar Road in Cedar Grove, Indiana – about 30 miles from home.

Franklin County Coroner Wanda Lee ruled Tuesday that Markham’s manner of death was homicide. What is still undetermined is how exactly Markham was killed. Tests at the Indiana State Police crime lab in Indianapolis and the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office in Cincinnati were among the forensic specialists who examined the remains.

The Indiana State Police and the Fairfield Police continue working jointly in their investigation into Markham’s death. Anyone who has any information regarding her death is urged to call the Indiana State Police at (812) 689-5000, Fairfield Police at (513) 867-6094, or Crime Stoppers at (888) 352-3040 or (513) 352-3040.

The coroner’s office released Markham’s remains to her family earlier Tuesday. No funeral has been held since Markham vanished, but the family can now begin planning for one.
