(Cleves, Oh.) - After 87 years, Taylor High School and three of its feeder schools are counting down their final days.

Three Rivers School Local District will open a sprawling, new K-12 campus on Cooper Avenue in Cleves in August. While most folks recognize the need for a new school, they can’t help but become sentimental about the four buildings which have educated a large number of people in southwestern Hamilton County over the past several decades.

The district is planning a ceremonial closing for the high school and three other buildings. On June 2, there will be ceremonies at all four buildings, according to the Three Rivers Local School District website.

-Miami Heights Elementary at 1:00 p.m. The school opened in 1941 housing kindergarten through 8th grade.

-Charles T. Young Elementary at 2:00 p.m. Opened in 1928 as Cleves Public School. Charles T. Young was the district’s first superintendent with 50 years of service.

-Three Rivers Middle School at 3:00 p.m. The newest of the four buildings opened in 1961 housing grades 7, 8, and 9. It has been home to grades 5 through 8 since 2006.

-Taylor High School at 4:00 p.m. The first class of five male students graduated in 1926. The high school housed students from 7 through 12 grade until 1962 when it instructed students from 8 through 12 grade.  The last change was made in 1975 when the 8th grade moved back to Three Rivers Middle School. Named after Winnie Taylor, the first ever president of the Three Rivers School Board.

A reception will follow at Taylor High School where alumni and staff can share their memories.

Three Rivers Local Schools officials said although Charles T. Young Elementary will still hold classes beyond this year, the school will be part of the June 2 ceremonies because of the grades transitioning from that building to the new campus.

Classes begin at the new $63 million Three Rivers Educational Campus on September 9. The three wings of the high school will carry familiar names: Taylor High School, Three Rivers Elementary, and the Meredith Hitchens Administration Center.

Tours and events to celebrate the new school building are being planned for August, according to the school district website.
