Ivy Tech and CMIT Solutions of Cincinnati & NKY Partner to Build Internship Program

Ivy Tech will continue to build partnerships with local employers.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - CMIT Solutions of Cincinnati & NKY has hired its second student from Ivy Tech in the span of a year through their IT support internship program. Located in Florence, Kentucky, CMIT is a managed services provider of IT solutions company delivering IT support, cybersecurity and audit assistance to businesses across Northern Kentucky and the Greater Cincinnati Area.

Jane Schulte, Chief Operating Officer for CMIT, spoke about their successful program. “The two interns that we have hired from Ivy Tech demonstrated professionalism from day one,” said Schulte. “We have been impressed with the education that they received from Ivy Tech and look forward to our continued partnership.”

The IT support internship program allows students to continue taking classes while gaining valuable on-the-job experience. Justin Wheeler began his internship in March and has been thrilled with the opportunity.

“I’ve already learned so much in my time at CMIT,” Wheeler said. “This internship is the perfect fit that allows me to gain work experience and start a career in IT support.”

In April 2021, Dillon Mock became the first intern from Ivy Tech at CMIT and was recently hired on full-time. Both students are enrolled in the IT Support program offered at Ivy Tech’s Lawrenceburg and Batesville campuses. Ryan Russell, Department Chair for the School of Information Technology, says that work-based learning is invaluable as students transition from college to the workforce.

“The internship program at CMIT has provided Justin and Dillon the opportunity to build their technical skills and employability skills.” Russell said. “This experience is invaluable as students become IT professionals. CMIT has been an incredible partner for Ivy Tech.”

Work-based learning is a critical component of the Career Coaching and Employer Connections (CCEC) program at Ivy Tech. Brandon Wernert, Talent Connection Manager, said Ivy Tech will continue to build partnerships with local employers in 2022 and beyond.

“Work-based learning provides immense benefits for students and employers,” said Wernert. “As students gain hands-on experience through internships, employers grow their talent pipeline as they skill up the workforce.”
