INDIANAPOLIS - James Hughes had a huge week for the Batesville Bulldogs, earning District 3 Boys Basketball Player of the Week honors from the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
The 6-4 forward averaged 32.0 points over two games for Class 3A's 7th ranked team.
Hughes scored 25 points and made decisive free throws in a 68-67 win over South Dearborn. He then sank 7-of-10 3-pointers to total 39 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 77-53 victory over Madison.
For the two games, Hughes hit on 24-of-30 from the floor, 7-of-11 from distance and 13-of-13 free throws.
Jennings County's girls basketball team was also recognized as the Girls Team of the Week.
The Class 3A No. 8 Jennings County girls, now 18-6 overall and coached by Kristi Sigler, won the Franklin County Sectional. The Panthers beat Lawrenceburg 47-33 and upset Class 3A No. 3 Greensburg 65-47 to claim the title.
