(Indianapolis, Ind.) - For the first time since the Prohibition, Hoosiers will be able to buy alcohol on Christmas. House Bill 1542 was signed last year by Governor Mike Pence and took effect on July 1 of this year. It removesĀ a state provision that made it illegal to sell alcoholic beverages from 3:00 a.m. on December 25 until to 7:00 a.m. on December 26. While many businesses are closed on Christmas Day anyways, those that do remain open will be free to sell beer, liquor, and wine. A spokesman with Indiana State Excise Police says the state's Sunday carry-out restrictions will still apply if Christmas falls on a Sunday, as it will in 2016.
