INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana's unemployment rate declined in April.

According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the state's jobless rate fell to 3.9 percent, down from 4.1 percent the month prior.

By comparison, the national unemployment rate reported for April was 4.2 percent.

In addition, Indiana’s labor force participation rate is 63.7 percent compared to the national rate of 62.6 percent. Those not in the labor force include, primarily, students, retirees and other non-working populations, such as individuals unable to work due to a disability or illness, or adults responsible for their family's childcare needs. Indiana’s total labor force stands at 3,483,930.

As of May 1, 2025, there were 88,613 open job postings throughout the state. As of the week ending on April 26, 2025, Indiana had 21,736 continued unemployment insurance claims filed.
