The bill moves to the Senate for consideration.

INDIANAPOLIS - The congressional redistricting effort took a step forward on Friday.
House Bill 1032 passed through the Indiana House of Representatives with a 57 to 41 vote. Locally, State Rep. Garrett Bascom (R-Lawrenceburg) State Rep. Lindsay Patterson (R-Brookville) and State Rep. Alex Zimmerman (R-North Vernon) supported the bill.
The proposal allows the Indiana General Assembly to move forward with redistricting efforts that have been ongoing for months.
House Republicans recently proposed a map that would create two more GOP-leaning districts. Republicans currently hold a 7-2 advantage in the U.S. House delegation.
The next step is the Indiana Senate having the opportunity to discuss the redistricting bill.
"Fair maps are essential to protecting Hoosiers’ voices in Washington, and today the House voted to do just that, delivering a strong congressional map. I commend Speaker Huston and his caucus for having the courage to protect Hoosier voters. I urge the Senate to move quickly next week and adopt this map so Indiana can move forward with confidence," said Governor Mike Braun.
Indiana Democratic Party Chair Karen Tallian released the following statement after State House Republicans passed new gerrymandered congressional maps today.
“The supermajority in the Indiana State House today took itself to a new low by passing clearly gerrymandered maps that seek to silence and ignore the wishes of their own constituents. For months, poll after poll showed Hoosiers opposed this redistricting power grab by a wide margin. And despite the pleas from the Hoosiers they are supposed to represent, House Republicans rammed through a map that they admit was drawn by Republican Party bosses in Washington D.C. No Hoosier could possibly think these maps keep communities together. They split Indianapolis in four pieces, split up the Region, and divide communities that are linked together, like the steelmaking communities of Lake and Porter counties. I was immensely proud of the efforts of our Democratic caucus who pointed out the extreme hypocrisy that Republicans showed by passing this unfair map championed by Mike Braun. I call on my colleagues in the Senate to live up to their word throughout this process, vote down this shameful, divisive map, and put this redistricting scheme behind us once and for all.”
