Indiana January 2025 Employment Report

The state's jobless rate remained unchanged in January.

INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana's unemployment rate remained unchanged in January. 

According to the Department of Workforce Development, the state's jobless rate remained at 4.4 percent. By comparison, the national unemployment rate reported for January was 4.0 percent.

  • Dearborn: 3.8
  • Franklin: 4.0
  • Ohio: 4.1
  • Ripley: 4.4
  • Switzerland: 5.1

In addition, Indiana’s labor force participation rate is 63.8 percent compared to the national rate of 62.6 percent. This rate is the percentage of Hoosiers 16 and older that are either working or actively looking for work. Those not in the labor force include, primarily, students, retirees and other non-working populations, such as individuals unable to work due to a disability or illness, or adults responsible for their family's childcare needs. 

Indiana’s total labor force stands at 3,485,632 and is at its highest on record.

As of March 3, 2025, there were 85,212 open job postings throughout the state. As of the week ending on March 1, 2025, Indiana had 26,417 continued unemployment insurance claims filed.
