I-71 Resurfacing Project Set To Begin In Gallatin County

Work will take place on a 10-mile stretch of road from Kentucky Speedway to the Boone County line.

(Covington, Ky.) - An upcoming resurfacing project will impact traffic on Interstate 71 in Gallatin County.

The 10-mile, $7.7 million resurfacing project will take place on I-71 from Kentucky 35 near Kentucky Speedway north to the Boone County line.

Base failure work is scheduled to begin on October 31. Lane closures are expected to be in place November 1 between 8 PM and 8 AM. Overnight work is expected to be completed by November 8.

Work will resume in the spring of 2022.  

The overall project completion is August of 2022. 

“I-71 is vital to this region’s economy and accessibility,” said Bob Yeager, KYTC District 6 chief district engineer. “This project will make for a smoother and safer ride.”
