All the treats collected at Highpoint Health were sent to Operation Gratitude’s main location in Chatsworth, California.

Rusty Walton, RN, ASN, Highpoint Health Nursing Development & Recruitment Coordinator, displays the boxes of mouth-watering chocolates, hard candies, lollipops and bubblegum that the nursing departments collected for Operation Gratitude’s Candy Drive.

The nursing departments of Highpoint Health collected 178 pounds of candy following Halloween to donate to Operation Gratitude, an organization that sends care packages on a regular basis to active military, veterans and first responders in the United States and those who are deployed elsewhere.

All the treats collected at Highpoint Health were sent to Operation Gratitude’s main location in Chatsworth, California. From there, they will be distributed to the recipients.

At Highpoint Health, Rusty Walton, RN, ASN, Nursing Development & Recruitment Coordinator, placed boxes in hospital nursing departments for employees to drop off excess Halloween candy. The greatest amount of candy was collected by the combined departments of Education, Medical Stabilization, Occupational Health and Wound Care, weighing in at 33.8 pounds. The department that collected the second greatest amount was Home Health & Hospice, with 25.6 pounds.

“I am grateful that my Highpoint Health co-workers were so excited and willing to help with this project,” noted Mr. Walton. “Working together as a team proved once again to be the way to make the drive a success. Our nursing departments stepped up to the challenge and went to work bringing in candy. Together, we were able to do something nice for those who give or have given so much for our communities and the nation."
