(Greensburg, Ind.) - The Greensburg Municipal Airport Board of Commissioners (Airport Board) announced a leadership transition today, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter.

Bill Ernstes, who has served as board president for several decades, is retiring from the role. During his tenure, Ernstes oversaw historic growth, including runway expansions, facility upgrades, and modernization of airport infrastructure. He will remain on the board, transitioning into the role of vice president.

Succeeding him as president is Dr. Jon Dooley, who has served as vice president for many years and was instrumental in the airport’s recent strategic developments.

The transition also includes the retirement of Airport Manager Jerry Schiedler after 18 years of dedicated service. Taking his place is Gary Bailey, an outgoing member of the Airport Board. Bailey will officially begin his duties as the new airport manager on January 20.

“It is an honor to step into this role,” Bailey said. “Having served on the board, I have a deep appreciation for the operations here, and I am excited to focus my full attention on the day-to-day success of our facilities.”

“I would like to thank Bill and retiring manager Jerry Schiedler for their tireless service over the years and their hard work," said Mayor Joshua Marsh. "I am incredibly proud of what has been accomplished, and I look forward to the future of the airport under this new leadership team as we continue to grow Greensburg’s connection to the world.”

The leadership changes come at a time of continued momentum for the airport. Dr. Dooley noted that the foundation laid by his predecessor has prepared the airport for its next phase of service.

Dooley said, “The changes coming to the airport reflect our commitment to progress while maintaining the high standards of our community expects. We are ready for this next flight path.”

The vacancy on the Airport Board created by Bailey’s transition to manager is expected to be filled in the coming weeks.
