(Aurora, Ind.) - A local brewery is the first in Indiana to begin using Indiana-grown and malted barley from Sugar Creek Malt Company. Great Crescent Brewery in Aurora says the Hoosier-grown key ingredient will make its beer truly locally crafted. The brewery, owned and operated by Dan and Lani Valas, has partnered with Sugar Creek Malt Co., based in Boone County, Indiana. The farm will supply the barley malt Great Crescent uses in brewing its Aurora Pale Ale. The brew is hopped with a blend of Aurora, Willamette, and Southern Cross hops. Great Crescent says the "farm to table" beer will be on tap starting in July. The brewery began operating in a historic building on Importing Street in 2008. The 1843 facility was once a warehouse for the Thomas and JW Gaff Distillery.
