Gov. Holcomb, INDOT Award Community Crossings Funds to Local Communities

The program aims to improve Indiana’s roads and bridges.

INDIANAPOLIS – Governor Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Department of Transportation today awarded $91.5 million in Community Crossings grants.

A total of 188 communities across the state received matching funds in the 2023 fall call for projects, including nine communities in southeast Indiana.

"Community Crossings continues to provide opportunities for Indiana local communities, large and small, to make connectivity and safety road improvements for Hoosier families and our visitors," Gov. Holcomb said. "The importance of this matching grant program is immediately obvious as we take our award-winning statewide infrastructure network to the next level."

The grant program which was established in 2016, aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Since its enactment, the program has awarded nearly $1.5 billion in state matching funds for local construction projects.

State Representative Randy Maxwell (R-Guilford) released the following statement:

"With six counties along the Ohio and Kentucky border, Senate District 43 is subjected to heavy Hoosier, tourist and commercial travel all year round. This is why I am pleased to see our community leaders secure this necessary funding to improve our roads and make commuting through our communities safer."

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75/25 percent match, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50/50 match.

The CCMG offers two rounds of applications each year, with the next call for applications occurring in January of 2024.
