INDIANAPOLIS – Today, Indiana Governor Mike Braun declared a statewide disaster emergency due to flooding, severe weather, and tornadic activity.

The State of Disaster Emergency is effective for 30 days.

The executive order calls for the state to provide assistance to supplement local resources in areas hit by widespread severe storms on August 11 and 12.

Across the state, the severe storms resulted in damage and destruction of homes, businesses, infrastructure, and other structures; loss of power, downing of trees and power lines, flooding, damage to and closure of roads, and injury.

“This declaration mobilizes state agencies, unlocks emergency resources and gives us additional tools to support local response and recovery efforts. Hoosiers’ safety is my top priority. Our state response is fully mobilized, resources are moving where they’re needed, and we will continue working around the clock to support every impacted community,” said Gov. Braun.
