(Aurora, Ind.) - The Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 4 held its annual dinner at the VFW Hall in Aurora, Indiana on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 with approximately 100 in attendance, counting members and their relatives.

A dinner was served to them by Pig Pickin’ Catering.  Many door prizes were awarded to all in attendance.

They opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Commander Elvin Newmann greeted the crowd and thanked the members for all they do and Chaplain Tom Largent offered a prayer.   P.G. Gentrup, Ron Spurlock, Jerry Bondurant and Elvin Newmann presented four beautiful plaques to members for their faithful and dedicated service to the KWVA and especially to the Color Guard. Dolores Chalker, Carroll “Jockey” Ammons, Tom Largent and J.D. Largent accepted the plaques along with rousing applause from those attending the dinner.

Dolores helps with the KWVA, Vietnam Veterans Chapter 71, DAV 75 and Veterans’ Court, and with being a member of the Color Guard.

Jockey Ammons for many years transported the veterans to local appointments and to the Cincinnati VA and was a member of the Color Guard.

Tom Largent is the long time Chaplain and Finance Officer and is a dedicated member of the Color Guard.

J.D. Largent served as the Commander for many years and is now the Vice Commander and plays a major role with the Color Guard.

Chalker is a Navy Veteran, Ammons served in the Army and the Largent Brothers are Air Force veterans.

Gentrup told the crowd how valuable these members are and how the KWVA Color Guard does an outstanding job paying a final tribute to our departed comrades at area funeral details.  They fold the American Flag and present it to the family, fire the three volleys with the rifles and play Taps.  It’s a tribute that veteran has earned for their service to our nation.  They are also involved in many community events.  They are dedicated to helping each other and their fellow veterans.

They live up to those words of duty, honor, country.
