Five New Members To Join Ripley County Basketball Hall Of Fame

By Mike Perleberg (Ripley County, Ind.) - The newest induction class of the Ripley County Basketball Hall of Fame has been announced. The 2016 inductees include former Batesville High School and Purdue University women’s hoops standout Cindy Lamping, who was recently named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2016 Silver Anniversary Team. Lamping, who graduated from Batesville in 1991, will be joined by 1967 Holton High School graduate Roger Castner, Milan ’75 grad Bruce Green, and twin brothers Randy and Ricky Meyer who played at Jac-Cen-Del before graduating in 1985. The inductees will be introduced at the Ripley County Basketball Hall of Fame at the Ripley County Boys Basketball Tournament on Saturday, January 9 at Batesville High School. A formal induction ceremony will take place in April. Last year's hall of fame class included seven members. A biography for each of the 2016 inductees can be read below, as provided:   Roger Castner, Holton High School Roger Castner graduated from Holton in 1967. His love for the game began many years prior spending endless hours a day in his father’s barn shooting hoops. Roger played varsity basketball for the Holton High School Warhorses for two and a half seasons having been moved up to the varsity squad midway through his sophomore year.  As a junior and a senior at Holton, he started every game. The Warhorses enjoyed some fine seasons Roger’s junior and senior years losing just 6 games his senior year.  Roger was the leading scorer his senior year sporting a 14 points per game average.  However his single game scoring output came as a junior in a 116-55 win over the Cross Plains Wildcats when Roger dumped in 28 points. Roger ended his career selected to the all-sectional and Ripley County 40/8 teams.  In the 40/8 game, Roger was named the Star of Stars scoring 22 points. After high school Roger received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University, graduating magna cum laude.  He went on to work as a production manager for the Batesville Casket Company for 35 and a half years. Roger and his wife, Debbie, of 48 years are the parents of two children, Angela and Daniel, and reside in Versailles.   Bruce Green, Milan High School Bruce Green is a 1975 graduate of Milan High School. Being named to the following squads attests to Bruce’s basketball abilities: all-conference 3 years; all-sectional 3 years; all regional as a sophomore and was a Ripley County 40/8 All-Star. While at Milan, Bruce averaged 20 points and 14 rebounds as a senior for the Indians and went on to be voted MVP of the team. Bruce joined the prestigious 1000-point club by the end of his career for the Indians. After graduation from Milan, Bruce attended Miami of Ohio University in Oxford on a basketball scholarship. He appeared in 14 games as a RedHawk and lettered his freshman year until transferring to Indiana University Fort Wayne and then later to Indiana University in Bloomington. In 1979, he graduated from IU with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Industrial Relations. He then began a 30-year career in HR, most notably as vice-president of Human Resources for Harman International. His career has taken him and his family to nine different states over the years. Bruce married Pam White (Milan class of 1978) at age 29 and the two of them have two children, daughter, Kelsey and son, Harrison.  Bruce and Pam now reside in Jupiter, Florida, following retirement in 2013.   Cindy Lamping, Batesville High School Cindy Lamping graduated from Batesville High School twenty-five years ago.  For four years the 1991 graduate led the Bulldogs to an outstanding record of 81-10 including three sectional titles and a regional title. Shooting a career average of 54% from the field, Cindy scored a total of 2048 points in her career making her the highest scorer, male or female, in Ripley County history. She averaged 34.1 points and scored a career high of 50 points in a single game her senior year. She was a well-rounded player, sporting career averages of 23 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals and 2 blocked shots a game.  She garnered a multitude of local, state, and national accolades. After being named to the 1991 Indiana All-Star Team, Cindy went on to Purdue University where she was a three-year starter for the nationally ranked Boilermakers. The Boilers were outstanding in her stint there earning two Big Ten Championships and a Final Four appearance. Cindy was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and as a senior, was named the Female Student Athlete of the Year at Purdue. The Boilermaker graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and now resides in Stamford, Connecticut where she is a Supply Chain Director for Biersdorf.   Randy Meyer, Jac-Cen-Del High School Randy, the twin of inductee Ricky, is a 1985 graduate of Jac-Cen-Del.  He earned 14 varsity letters, but he excelled most in basketball. Randy had an outstanding senior year for the Eagles. In addition to a high game of 30 points against rival, South Ripley, he went on to average 20.7 points per game that year in leading the Eagles to their first ever undefeated O.R.V.C title at 10-0.  The team also started the season with an unblemished record in their first 12 games before a defeat at the hands of South Dearborn in the Ripley County Tournament finals. Randy was named MVP for the Ripley County Tournament as well as the conference and was a member of the all-sectional team. He led the team his senior year in rebounding, free throw percentage, and was named the Eagles’ MVP. For his career, Randy scored 769 points and had 100 career steals placing him in the top 20 in both categories in Eagle history. After graduating from Jac-Cen-Del, Randy went on to Franklin College where he played basketball three years and obtained a bachelor’s degree. He and his wife, Linda, reside in Milan with two children, Kyle and Kristi, where he is a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.   Ricky Meyer, Jac-Cen-Del High School Ricky Meyer graduated from Jac-Cen-Del in 1985, the twin of fellow inductee, Randy. Ricky earned three varsity letters playing basketball for the Eagles. During his varsity stint, the Jac-Cen-Del won the O.R.V.C. title all three years. Ricky was named to that all-conference squad his senior year. In addition, he was a two-time all sectional player along with being a member of the all county team his senior year.  He and his brother, Randy, were both members of the Ripley County 40/8 All-Star Team. For the record, Ricky averaged 16.6 points per game his senior year and was the team free throw champ his junior year. Ricky found his way into the top 25 in JCD history in career steals, assists, and scoring. After graduating from Jac-Cen-Del, Ricky attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana and played basketball three years there. He earned a bachelors degree from Rose in Civil Engineering. Ricky and his wife, Karen, of 23 years currently reside in Purcellville, Virginia, with their four children, Kristina, Kara, Kenny, and Kurtis where he is a senior project manager.
