Deer of the Day 2014

The Eagle 99.3 Deer of the Day presented by Aurora Farm & Garden is giving our listeners the chance to show off their prized whitetail deer harvested during the 2014 hunting season. We are welcoming your nominations now through December 31, 2014! There are some simple rules to follow:

∙ Email your medium to high resolution photo in JPEG or GIF file format to deer@eaglecountryonline.com. Please include your name, city of residence, and location of the harvest along with a one paragraph story detailing your successful hunt.

∙ Keep your photo and story tasteful. Photos showing too much blood and/or guts won't be considered (yuck!).

∙ The deer shown must have been hunted legally during the 2014 bow, firearms, muzzleloader, or youth hunting season in local areas of Indiana, Ohio, or Kentucky.

Check back on this page often for a new Eagle 99.3 Deer of the Day photo and story posted below each weekday through December 31, 2014 excluding holidays.

"Rod Chase took this buck on opening day of firearm season. A nice 10 pointer. It was one of those few mornings where everything went right. Rod is from Switzerland County and took this buck in the Markland Pike area."

"Dave Beck of Milan shot this deer November 18th in Ripley County with his TC Omega Muzzleloader. Son, Blane Beck, was happy to point out it wasn't as big as his kill in 2011. Matt Johnson's eight-year-old son Jeremiah and wife each claimed a buck this season. "Jeremiah shot this buck in Dearborn County when it was windy and raining he refused to leave the woods. My wife killed this with her pink Craze bow. This deer is her first buck. It was 197 pounds. Very proud of her!" -Submitted by Matt Johnson

"Dakota Postel, 13 yrs. Cincinnati, Ohio. Deer shot in New Alsace on Grandparents farm. On the second last day of the Indiana gun season the big buck followed a doe into the food plot and Dakota shot it with his Ganny's 44 mag rifle with one shot." -Submitted by Annie Steele

"10yr old Bo Ober, from Manchester IN, took this nice 8 point buck on 11/18/14 from Manchester. Bo made a beautiful 50 yard kill shot with his 357 rifle. Bo is becoming quite the 'veteran' hunter in his 5 years of deer hunting and still continues to hunt traditionally with his iron sights." -Submitted by Tricia Ober

"Allie Conroy, of Milan, Indiana, shot her first buck a main frame 9 point (13 points total) on November 17 in the first snow of the year. After a couple of close encounters with big shooter bucks in early archery this hog came in by himself looking for a hot doe. The buck took a heavily used trail that passes our stand at 45 yards and she made a great shot freehanded to take this great buck. Zander took advantage of a snow day and spent most of the day in the woods waiting for a nice buck to come along. "Both of my kids got their first deer this weekend. Caleb Harper is 8 and was hunting with my husband Dave on Saturday and shot a seven-pointer. Not be out outdone, older brother Justin Harper, who is 9, was hunting with his papaw Bill Wells on Sunday and got a three-pointer. They have been play hunting for years so it was nice to see them actually bag and tag one themselves. They were both killed near Dover, Indiana." -Amanda Harper

"This was a successful father/son hunt! Andrew's 9 point buck was his first with a bow. Brian got his 8 point buck with a bow just 100 yards away from Andrew. These deer were harvested within 45 minutes of each other on November 8th. Both deer were from a property in Yorkville." -Lisa White

"Emrick Engel age 7 of Dillsboro, IN shot his first deer an 8 point buck during the Indiana youth season on his parents property. Emrick shot this deer at 20 yds. and it only ran about 50 yds. I'm not sure who was more excited me or him. He was using the same single shot 20 gauge shotgun that I killed my first deer with when I was 7 years old just 22 yrs. ago. After we got the deer home he looked at me and said "dad that was easy" I smiled and thought if he only knew how lucky he was." -Robert Engel
