By Travis Thayer Craig Pennington. (Florence, Ky.) – The Commonwealth of Kentucky will seek the death penalty against the man accused of murdering a Florence couple. Craig Pennington, 52, of Springfield, Kentucky, was arrested and charged for the shooting deaths of Bobby Jones and Crystal Warner in July. During a pretrial conference on Wednesday, Commonwealth attorneys filed a motion to seek the death penalty against Pennington. The Florence couple went missing on July 3 in Washington County, Kentucky. The couple had traveled to a home there to evict Craig Pennington, the tenant of a property they owned. Pennington has been indicted by a grand jury on two counts of murder, two counts of abuse of a corpse, and single counts of robbery, kidnapping, tampering with physical evidence, theft by unlawful taking, wanton endangerment, and terroristic threatening. He pleaded not guilty to both counts. On August 5, human remains found in Clark County, Kentucky were identified as those of Bobby Jones. Warner's remains would eventually be found in late November near the Salt Lick exit off of Interstate 64. Both remains were identified through dental records. Previously, witnesses told investigators that they saw Pennington shoot the pair and carry their bodies off. Pennington is currently being held on $2 million bond.
