(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office is saddened to announce the passing of K-9 Raiko,

The 13-year-old bloodhound passed away from medical issues on May 11.

Raiko began her career with the Dearborn County Sheriff's Office in July of 2012, and her primary duties were to locate missing persons, suspects, and evidence. Raiko also assisted police agencies in neighboring communities.

During Raiko's 11.5-year career, she successfully located numerous persons involved in wide range of criminal activity from armed robberies to burglaries and suspects fleeing on foot. Raiko was also active in the public at schools, fairs, and community events over the years. She interacted with everyone that she could.

Major Ben McBroom was her K-9 handler and the two of them helped train other police agencies in the U.S. as well as the U.S. military.

“K-9 Raiko was a tremendous asset during her years of service with the Sheriff’s Office. Major McBroom and K-9 Raiko made a great team, and I always knew we could count on them to get the job done no matter what the mission was. She will be missed!,” said Sheriff Shane McHenry.
