In Boone County, Republican voters are being asked to decide who will run for county prosecutor in November. Some party leaders have called on current prosecutor Linda Tally Smith to step down due to her role in a scandal which led to convicted murderer David Dooley being awarded a second trial. Tally-Smith is challenged today by Louis Kelly, an attorney from Union, on the GOP ballot.
Republican Boone County Sheriff Michael Helmig is running against Tony Wilson for the party nomination. 19-year Judge-Executive Gary Moore is getting a challenge from Union resident Chris Reinersman. Other contested races on the GOP ballot in Boone County include Circuit Clerk, County Commissioner, County Attorney, and Coroner.
For Democrats in northern Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District, three candidates hope to challenge incumbent Republican Congressman Thomas Massie in the fall. Those three are Seth Hall, Patty Piatt and Christina Lord – each looking to tilt the largely conservative district.
Voter turnout Tuesday in the Commonwealth is expected to be around 30 percent of the state's 3.3 million registered voters, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes said last week.
Indiana and Ohio held their primaries back on May 8.
