(Batesville, Ind.) - The Batesville Community School Corporation (BCSC) has selected Bradley Ziegelmaier, a Southeast Indiana music educator, as its next Batesville High School (BHS) band director, according to Principal Brad Stoneking. Ziegelmaier is already a familiar face within the BCSC music program through multiple freelance music assignments in the Batesville schools. In addition to his high school band duties, he will also teach general music at Batesville Middle School, joining BCSC in time for scheduled summer band activities.
In his most recent position, Ziegelmaier served as the Director of Bands at Lawrenceburg Community Schools. From assisting with the BHS band camp the past two summers to performing in the Batesville Singers’ backup band, his freelance involvement in the Batesville music program provided him with firsthand opportunities to learn about Batesville’s commitment to expanding its music opportunities for students.
“We interviewed four qualified candidates with a committee of administrators, teachers, students, and a parent,” Stoneking shared. “Ziegelmaier comes to us with experience as a local director and teacher. He knows our program and is a familiar name and face to many music department students and families. With his history of growing band programs, I am excited for him to continue the momentum we have gained in our middle school and high school music departments.”
During Ziegelmaier’s time at Lawrenceburg, the band program grew by 33 percent, and participation in the Indiana State School Music Association’s solo and ensemble contest reached its highest level in a decade. All grades of the Lawrenceburg band program participated in the ISSMA organizational contest for the first time, and the sixth-grade band program was overhauled to provide targeted skills development to beginning students.
Originally from Mishawaka, Indiana, Ziegelmaier is a 2024 graduate of Ball State University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree (K-12 Instrumental/General Music). During college, he was active in the Ball State Pride of Mid-America Marching Band, as well as the Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Orchestra for all four years. Besides his freelance assignments in Batesville, Ziegelmaier has played with world-renowned musicians and is currently on staff with the Cincinnati Tradition Drum and Bugle Corps. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing and serving as leader of the River City Jazz Orchestra, a professional band created last year to assist young musicians throughout Southeast Indiana through scholarships.
“It is an incredible honor to serve as the next band director at Batesville High School,” Ziegelmaier said. “Having had the privilege of working with these students and families over the past two years, I already know the heart, dedication, and talent that make this program so special. I’m grateful for this opportunity and excited to continue building something meaningful together.”
