(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Fresh off a third place performance at the Indiana High School Athletic Association Wrestling State Finals on Saturday, Mason Parris was back on the mat the next day. Parris, who went 54-1 in the 2014-2015 season, grappled at the Indy Nationals - the wrestling equivalent of an AAU basketball event - in Indianapolis on Sunday. All he did was capture the championship in his weight division. "I went and got first at Nationals so I could be the first five-time winner in it," the multi-sport Tiger athlete explained on Eagle 99.3 Wednesday morning with coach Mark Kirchgassner. Parris competed at the 182 lbs. division this season. Only being a freshman, he plans to move into larger weight classes in the next three years of his high school career. "I'm looking to move up and improve my wrestling skills so I can be number one," he said. Looking to the future, Parris hopes to play football in college. He was Lawrenceburg's leading tackler on the varsity team this past fall. He also runs on the school track team. "But I really like wrestling. It's just you and the other guy and you get to beat them up without getting in trouble for it," Parris laughed. He's so far accomplished in the classroom, too. Parris said he's earning all A's in his classes and would like to become an engineer someday. Math is his favorite subject.
