(Batesville, Ind.) – Never forget.

That’s the purpose behind the 9th Annual Ride to Remember, which will honor 16 fallen heroes with ties to southeast Indiana.

Organized by the Indiana Patriot Guard Riders, the annual ride will take place on June 8-9.

Starting in Batesville, participants will travel to 13 Indiana towns where there will be a 25-minute service honoring one or more of the fallen heroes.

Local stops include Aurora, Sunman, Versailles and Madison, but the ride will go as far as New Albany.

There is no cost for the ride, which is open to both motorcycles and automobiles. Participants are invited to meet at the service side or join the ride for as many stops as they can fit into their schedules.

This year’s honorees are:

  • Army SGT Chad L. Keith, Liberty Park, Batesville
  • Army SGT James D. Faulkner, Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany
  • Army SGT Matthew L. Deckard, New Albany National Cemetery, New Albany
  • Army SGT Steven Mennemeyer, New Albany National Cemetery, New Albany
  • Army PFC Anthony P. Seig, Sunman
  • Army SSGT Robert J. Montgomery, Scottsburg Cemetery, Scottsburg
  • Army SGT Kenneth "KR" Booker, Slawson Cemetery, Bennington
  • Army NG SPC Jonathan D. Menke, Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison
  • Army NG SPC Carlos E. Wilcox IV, New Albany National Cemetery, New Albany
  • Marine CPL Dustin L. Turpen, Bartlettsville Christian Church, Bartlettsville
  • Army SGT Jonathan K. Peney, New Albany National Cemetery, New Albany
  • Marine CPL John C. Bishop, Cliff Hill Cemetery, Versailles
  • Army SPC Zachary S. Salmon, Riverview Cemetery, Aurora
  • Marine LCPL Hunter "HD" Hogan, Jackson County Courthouse, Brownstown
  • Marine CPL Jordan L. Spears, American Legion Post 204, Sellersburg
  • Marine LCPL Jacky Koenig, Jr., Vernon Cemetery, Vernon

Considering the amount of travel, the ride will be split up into two days and will include an overnight stay and celebration with Gold Star families in Clarksville.

When the ride began in 2009, it was with a promise to those Gold Star families to never forget the sacrifice their loved ones made.

“As we are reminded on Memorial Day, freedom isn’t free, and this is our small way of remembering the sacrifice made for our freedom,” said Co-Founder Tim Kieffer. “The sacrifice of a few hours over the weekend is the least we could do to show the Gold Star families their loved on is not forgotten.”
