(St. Leon, Ind.) - The IHSAA Girls Swimming and Diving State Tournament got underway on Thursday night with preliminary rounds.
The East Central Natatorium is hosting Sectional 17 this week.
On Thursday night, it was East Central senior Audrey Bumgardner who stole the show at the preliminaries. Bumgardner set new school records in the 100-meter freestyle (52.52) and 200-meter freestyle (1:54.83).
Not only did she win those events, Bumgardner was a part of two relay wins. She was joined by Riley Reany, Elle Jankovsky and Joan Strotman in winning the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The team of Reany, Bumgardner, Sierra Hall and Marley Boone took first in the 200-yard medley relay.
Sectional 17 will resume with the finals on Saturday, starting at 9 AM.
