WWII Veteran George Klopp Receives Diploma at LHS Graduation

The moment was over 80 years in the making.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - George Klopp had a huge smile on his face as he received his high school diploma on Saturday.

The moment was over 80 years in the making for the 100-year-old World War II veteran.

Klopp was a senior at Lawrenceburg High School when he decided to leave school and join the U.S. Navy. At just 18 years old, he was shipped overseas for a total of 22 months during World War II.

In April, Klopp was honored at the Lawrenceburg Community Picnic, where he received his high school diploma.

On Saturday, he got all the pomp and circumstance as he walked the stage to receive his diploma from Superintendent Karl Galey.

You can view the graduation ceremony at Lawrenceburg High School Graduation '25-'26. Klopp receives his diploma around the 58-minute mark.
