Wounded Boone Co. Deputies Identified, Resting at Home

Two deputies sustained gunshot wounds on August 28 while serving an arrest warrant.

(Boone County, Ky.) - Two Boone County Sheriff's Office deputies are resting at home after suffering gunshot wounds in an incident on August 28. 

Jerald "Mitchell" Wilmes and Kyle Florer were serving a felony arrest warrant at a home on Service Road when the suspect, Justin Chapman, open fire. 

Wilmes sustained gunshot wounds to both of his legs and was discharged from UC Medical Center on Monday. Florer sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and was sent home last Friday. 

Both are currently resting at home. 

Wilmes, 30, began his career with the Boone County Sheriff's Office in 2018. He is currently a Field Training Officer and member of the SWAT Team. He was training Deputy Florer when the incident occurred. 

The suspect in the matter was pronounced deceased at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
