VIDEO: Rising Sun-Ohio County Community School Superintendent Talks Plans To Move Forward

Today, Superintendent Branden Roeder announced plans for starting athletics this summer, updates on graduation, and prepping for the reopening in the fall.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - Today, Rising Sun-Ohio County Community School Corporation Superintendent Branden Roeder announced upcoming plans to move forward with summer athletics, graduation plans, and a start for the 2020-2021 school year.

Athletics

Based on the Indiana Department of Education's (IDOE) regulations, athletes will be allowed to begin practices July 6. Rising Sun will follow this date.

For the past three weeks, Athletic Directors and Superintendents in Rising Sun and other conferences have been creating an athletic plan that mirror's IDOE's plan. Parents will receive the full athletic plan during the first week of July.

Graduation

The original graduation date of June 7 was postponed to July 19 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each senior will be allowed eight guests at the graduation ceremony. Social distancing guidelines will continue to be practiced with having family members sitting together in "clusters."

Graduation will be held in the gymnasium at the high school.

Fall 2020 Re-Entry

Superintendent Roeder fully anticipates students to be back in the buildings for face-to-face learning starting this fall.

The leadership team, consisting of Dr. Walcott and the Ohio County Health Department, has been working together to create a plan to ensure the safety of all students and staff members.

The 2020-2021 school year start date is set for Monday, August 3.
