William Henry Harrison High School. (Harrison, Oh.) – A student was found in possession of a gun at Harrison High School Friday. According to a message to parents from Southwest Local Schools Superintendent Chris Brown provided by a parent, a student notified staff that another student may have a gun at the high school. That student was removed from class. A search of the student found that he did have an unloaded gun in his backpack. The student was immediately arrested and removed from the school by a school resource office. He claimed he had traded the gun for other items and it was not his intent to harm anyone at school, Brown said. Brown told Eagle 99.3 that a second student – whom was believed to be involved in the trade – was also removed from the school. The school never went on lockdown as the situation arose around 2:05 p.m. The administrator who was informed of the gun on the property was in close proximity to the student in question. The situation was controlled within three minutes, Brown said. “There was no time for a lockdown. It happened that quick,” Brown said. The school district notified parents of what had happened by 2:50 p.m. “I would like to thank the students who took it upon themselves to alert school officials and the quick action by our administrative team and resource officer to remove the student and the weapon,” Brown’s letter to partens said. “Our number one priority is student safety and we will continue to address any and all threats with swift and immediate action.” Brown said until today he’s never seen a firearms situation in the school anytime during his 13 years as a central office administrator at Southwest Local Schools. The names of the students involved have not been released.
