(Dearborn County, Ind.) - Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Beaty Construction, Inc. continues bridge rehabilitation work on the State Road 46 historical truss bridge located over Whitewater River in Dearborn County.

Last Friday, contract crews completed the bridge deck pours on the first two spans of the S.R. 46 truss bridge.

Rehabilitation work will continue into 2026.

The project includes a full bridge deck replacement, sandblasting and painting of the bridge, steel beam repair and replacement where needed, and minor maintenance, aggregate, and erosion control work.

The S.R. 46 historical truss bridge will remain closed over Whitewater River until rehabilitation work is fully complete. The bridge was previously scheduled for an intermediate reopening in late fall 2025 and to reclose in spring 2026 for the remainder of work. The schedule has been modified and minor work will now take place throughout winter.

Initial information regarding the project is here. Overall contract work remains anticipated to be complete in fall 2026. During the closure, motorists should continue using the official detour route which follows U.S. 52 to I-74 to S.R. 1. Additional information and updates will be provided as work progresses.

This work is part of a $10.6 million contract awarded to Beaty Construction in October 2024. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
