(Greendale, IN) - Friday afternoon was a beautiful day for many dog owners and their pups to attend the grand opening of The Friends of Lauren Hill Memorial Park.

After several years of planning, fundraising and hard work, an idea beginning with Adam Duwel and the late Tom Biedenharn, came to fruition when the ribbon was cut to open the park.

When asked about the emotions of the big day, Duwel says "I am not an emotional guy but today is one of those days that make you realize that when it takes a while to do something the payoff is just incredible, to see the dogs and humans smiling at the park, makes all the issues and getting over the humps worth it."

Adam explained the logo of The Friends of Lauren Hill Memorial Park features four of Lauren's dogs, the late Spencer and Sadie as well as Sophie and Scarlet, who were able to enjoy the new park.

Brent Hill, Lauren's father and President of the Friends of Lauren Hill Memorial Park board, says he hopes the park will keep Lauren's name on the tip of everybody's tongue, that way generations in the future can look towards her for inspiration and to give themselves hope.

In his speech during the opening Hill also states they have a long way to go, and there are other projects in the works. FOLH is hoping to get a mountain bike trail set up and started this summer. They are not sure when it will be finished but have hopes of getting it laid out and possibly even cut.
