The plan will serve as a roadmap to accomplish several goals over the next five years.

(St. Leon, Ind.) – The Sunman-Dearborn School Corporation has approved their Five-Year Strategic Plan that will run through the 2026-27 school year.
The strategic plan will serve as a roadmap for the school corporation and its employees for the next five years and will allow it to improve core instruction and student learning, continue to provide a safe learning environment and to continue to invest and improve the facilities, and in order to continue to attract and retain highly qualified personnel, be the highest compensated staff in the southeastern Indiana region.
“Our mission is to educate and to facilitate growth in all students, preparing them for productive and responsible citizenship,” reads the strategic plan.
The plan creates objectives and goals in areas of Core Instruction, Resources, Financial, Culture/Climate/Safety, and Leadership/Service.
- Core Instruction - By the end of the 2023-24 school year, the Teacher Evaluation Rubic Effective Instruction Domain score will increase by 0.25 points compared to baseline data from the 2022-23 school year.
- Resources – By January 1, 2027, 85 percent of all staff will report they have the facilities and equipment to provide students with an excellent learning environment as measured by the annual school climate/culture survey.
- Financial – Throughout the five-year strategic plan, the combined cash balances of the Education Fund, Operation Fund, and Rainy Day Fund will be between 30 percent and 35 percent of the calendar year expenditures.
- Culture, Climate and Safety – Throughout the five-year strategic plan, 100 percent of employees will be ALICE and CPR trained.
- Leadership and Service – By the 2023-24 school year, and throughout the remainder of the strategic plan, 100 percent of staff and students will receive integrated instruction and opportunities to identify community needs and develop plans for servant leadership.
“Our prior Five-Year Strategic Plan was adopted in 2017 in response to the Cognia On-site Review Team priority recommendation to develop a systemic strategic plan in support of the corporation's purpose and direction. In 2017, we received an Index of Education Quality score of 220, which was below the national average of 278. In 2021, during our most recent Cognia On-site Review Team, we received a score of 338. Obviously, our prior strategic plan served us well. We look forward to our continued success and growth, as we continue to provide an excellent educational experience for our community and students”, Dr. Jackson, Superintendent.
