Derrick Clifton
Boone County Sheriff's Office
(Union, Ky.) – A Burlington man who threatened a woman’s life with a knife as she walked through a Boone County park is now facing an Attempted Murder charge.
Derrick Clifton was arrested last Wednesday evening, a short time after he threatened the woman at Central Park and Arboretum in Union by showing a knife and threatening to kill her, Boone County Sheriff’s investigators said.
The woman was able to escape after running into nearby Camp Ernst Road and receiving help from a passing motorist.
After 911 was called, police found Clifton, 38, in the park in possession of the knife. They also discovered the woman’s tires were slashed.
This week, commonwealth attorneys upgraded from a charge of Stalking to Attempted Murder. The prosecutors said Clifton’s actions showed he was trying to kill the victim.
Clifton was arraigned Monday and ordered held on $250,000 bond at the Boone County Detention Center.
