Southwest Local Schools Earn Good Grades, Awards

Good things are happening at Southwest Local School District.

(Miamitown, Oh.) - Southwest Local Schools are celebrating good report cards from the Ohio Department of Education.

Miamitown Elementary was named a High Progress School of Honor for the 2017-2018 school year. The designation recognizes schools that have sustained high achievement and substantial progress while serving a significant number of economically disadvantaged students.

Miamitown is one of only 66 schools in Ohio to earn that award, and just one other school in Hamilton County earned it.

The elementary school received an overall grade of B, but still earned the ODOE’s Momentum Award for exceeding expectations in student growth. To be eligible, a school must receive straight A’s on all value-added measures on its state report card. The school or district must have at least two Value-Added subgroups of students, which include gifted, lowest 20 percent in achievement, and students with disabilities.

A few other Southwest Local School District buildings got high marks for their performance last school year and were awarded the Department of Education’s Overall A Award. Crosby, Harrison, and Whitewater Valley elementary schools each received an overall A on their state assessments.

Only 23 schools in Hamilton County and 310 statewide earned an Overall A Award from the ODOE.

In other grades on the state report cards released last September, Harrison Middle School received overall grades of B. William Henry Harrison High School’s overall grade was a C.
