South Dearborn Students Honor Lives Lost In Parkland, FL School Shooting

(Aurora, Ind.) – South Dearborn High School students did not walk out of class to demand increased gun control measures, but they did honor the lives of the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre.

Seventeen students at the school in Parkland, Florida were shot and killed by a former student on February 14. Schools nationwide have held rallies, demonstrations and other events in the wake of the attack.

South Dearborn High School student government members Carly Utter and Sydnee Pyles organized a school-wide assembly called “17 for 17” on March 22.

During the assembly, 17 members of the student government read notecards containing information about each one of the 17 school shooting victims.

Other students who joined Utter and Pyles in the program were Tyler Baker, Nathan Cantrell, Benjamin Chapman, Bryston Cotton, MaKenna Dixon, Anna Dreyer, Gabby Eldridge, A.J. Fox, Ashton Hoog, Elisa Meek, Zach Otto, Rileigh Powell, Lila Socks, Jacob Teaney, Jersey Tice and Madison VanWinkle.
