Photo by Mike Perleberg, Eagle 99.3. (Moores Hill, Ind.) - Citizens in the South Dearborn Community Schools district will have the opportunity to voice their concerns over the district’s proposal to close a school. Moores Hill Elementary School has been identified as the school that would most likely be closed if the Board of School Trustees decides to go that route to maintain fair class sizes and reduce costs as enrollment in the district experiences enrollment declines. "Again, our overall district budget is in great shape. This more about addressing long-term structural problems and about best serving the academic needs of our students," Superintendent John Mehrle said. A public work session of the school board will be held Wednesday, June 24 starting at 7:00 p.m. at Moores Hill Elementary. No votes will be held at that meeting, but the public will have an opportunity to address the board with their concerns. During a work session held last week, the board heard from a handful of Moores Hill residents, elected officials, and parents who said that closing the school would cause the small town to lose its identity. If the board does hold a vote to close a school, or some other cost-cutting or revenue raising measure, it would likely be at its regular monthly meeting on Monday, July 20.
