SEI YMCA Enrolling For Free Preschool

By Mike Perleberg (Batesville, Ind.) – Twenty children from Ripley and Franklin counties are being given the opportunity to attend preschool at no cost thanks to a state grant. The Southeastern Indiana  YMCA Learning Center says the grant comes from the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration.  Twenty eligible four-year-olds will be enrolled for the 2014-2015 school year, says SEI YMCA community outreach coordinator Kathleen Bohman. Accepted students will participate in enrichment classes offered at the YMCA including music, Character Counts, swimming, and more. The children applying for the free, full-day preschool must meet the following requirements: Must be 4 by August 1, 2014 Indiana resident 100% of poverty Cannot already be on child care vouchers Focus on Franklin and Ripley County residents The preschool program includes healthy breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Bus transportation will be offered from centralized locations. The ISTAR kindergarten readiness assessment will be given to children. Parents of guardians interested in applying for enrollment of their child should call the Southeastern Indiana YMCA Learning Center at (812) 932-1415.
