(Rising Sun, Ind.) - Rising Sun has a new police chief.

Longtime officer and detective Rodney Rimstidt was selected for the job last week by Mayor Brent Bascom. Rimstidt fills the position last held by Chief David Hewitt, who died in a vehicle crash on February 13.

He has been a member of the Rising Sun PD since 2000.

“Chief Rimstidt brings considerable experience and training as well as strong relationships with many law enforcement agencies throughout the Tri-State,” said Mayor Bascom. “He will continue to help build a strong police department here as we prepare for the future of law enforcement in Rising Sun.”

One of Rimstidt's first major duties will be to hire two new police officers to fill vacancies. Applications can be picked up at the police department and must be submitted by March 29.
