Rising Sun Regional Foundation Awards $201,150 In New Grants

The largest grants are going to the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department, Ripley County Highway Department, and Rising Sun-Ohio County Community Schools.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - The Rising Sun Regional Foundation (RSRF) awarded a total of $201,150 in 12 new grants in the first quarter of 2019. These grants included:

  • $5,000 to the American Legion Post #235 Milan toward the installation of a  community awareness sign;

  • $40,000 to the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department for the replacement of radios;

  • $5,000 to the Aurora Riverfront Beautification toward expenses for the USS LST 325, an amphibious vessel used in several wars, to be in attendance at the Aurora Bicentennial in September 2019;

  • $12,000 to the Batesville Community School Corporation for the purchase of classroom instruments for the Intermediate School;

  • $2,723 to the Jac-Cen-Del Community School Corporation for the development of emergency guide books;

  • $5,000 to LifeTime Resources toward matching funds for a Catch-a-Ride vehicle to be used primarily in Ripley County;

  • $24,013 to the Milan Community School Corporation for classroom space for STEM-related activities;

  • $5,000 to the Osgood Volunteer Fire Department toward the purchase of a stabilization kit;

  • $3,000 to the Ripley County Parks & Recreation toward upgrades to electrical power at the fairgrounds;

  • $40,000 to the Ripley County Commissioners toward the purchase of a new tractor/mower for the Highway Department;

  • $39,414 to the Rising Sun-Ohio County Community School Corporation for the replacement of tile and water fountains at the high school; and

  • $20,000 to the South Ripley Community School Corporation toward the development of flexible seating classrooms.

Grant applications for the next grants cycle are due Monday, April 15, 2019 by 4:00pm. Applications can be downloaded from the RSRF website at www.rsrfonline.org, and can be emailed to Jascia Redwine at risingsunregionalfoundation@gmail.com.

The Rising Sun Regional Foundation was created in 1994 by the City of Rising Sun, and is now funded by the Rising Star Casino Resort, owned by Full House Resorts, Inc., which makes monthly contributions to the foundation based on a percentage of its Adjusted Gross Revenue. To date, the foundation has received more than $43 million in riverboat funds, of which at least 75% has been granted back to the community.
