(Boone County, Ky.) – One in seven patients entering a hospital will need a blood transfusion, but only three percent of Americans give blood.

The American Red Cross is encouraging local residents to make and keep an appointment this month to help prevent a blood shortage.

It’s also Heart Month and with every appointment the Red Cross checks donors’ blood pressure and pulse, which are important indicators of heart health.

Two upcoming blood drives will take place in Boone County:

  • Monday, February 27 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Florence Mall, 2028 Mall Road
  • Tuesday, February 28 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Vineyard Church, 7101 Pleasant Valley Road

Those who give in February will receive a $10 Amazon gift card by email. Donors this month will also be entered to win a trip for two to Clearwater Beach, Florida.
