(Dearborn County, Ind.) - An announcement will be made Wednesday morning regarding an officer-involved shooting in Dearborn County.
Christopher Schmitt, 58, was shot and killed by officers responding to a disturbance call at his home on Five Points Road in Sunman last January 12.
Indiana State Police said that an ISP trooper and a Dearborn County Sheriff’s deputy shot Schmitt, 58, when he allegedly pointed a firearm at them as they approached the residence.
Ripley County Prosecutor Ric Hertel was appointed to review the case as a special prosecutor. He will hold a press conference at the Dearborn County Government Center in Lawrenceburg at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
“Out of district Indiana State Police detectives investigated the matter and the Hamilton County Coroner's office conducted the autopsy with that report being completed this month,” Hertel said in announcing the press conference.
Eagle Country 99.3 will have it covered.
