Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales Announces Key Dates for Indiana’s 2026 Election

INDIANAPOLIS - With preparations for the 2026 state and federal elections underway, Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales announces key 2026 Election dates and the availability of important information for candidates and voters.
“As a naturalized U.S. citizen, I deeply value the right to vote and the responsibility that comes with safeguarding our elections. Hoosiers deserve clear information about when and how to vote. Our office is committed to ensuring that every eligible voter has the resources they need to make informed decisions,” said Diego Morales, Indiana Secretary of State.
Listed below are key dates for the upcoming 2026 election cycle:
2026 PRIMARY ELECTION
Election Day: Tuesday May 5, 2026 (polls open 6am through 6pm local time).
Voter Registration: Ongoing, now through Monday, April 6th, 2026 (close of business for in person) Midnight deadline for online registration.
Apply to Vote Absentee by Mail: now through Thursday, April 23, 2026 (11:59 p.m. local time). Apply online or with an application form. Restrictions apply, visit: https://indianavoters.in.gov/ .
Early Voting (“in-person absentee voting”): Tuesday, April 7, 2026, through Monday, May 4, 2026 (noon local time). Early voting dates, times, and locations vary, check with your county election office for details.
Major Party Primary Election Candidate Filing: Wednesday, January 7, 2026, through Friday, February 6, 2026 (noon local time).
2026 GENERAL ELECTION
Election Day: Tuesday, November 3, 2026 (polls open 6am through 6pm local time).
Voter Registration: (post-Primary Election) Tuesday, May 19, 2026, through Monday, October 5, 2026 (close of business for in person) Midnight deadline for online registration.
