Phone Scammers Claim To Be Dearborn Co. Sheriff's Deputies

You have been warned Dearborn County residents.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Dearborn County citizens are being warned about an ongoing phone scam.

Dearborn County Sheriff's Major Terry Van Winkle told Eagle Country 99.3 Wednesday that scammers are calling residents claiming to be a deputy with the Dearborn County Sheriff's Office.

The scammers are leaving a message to residents asking them to call back and leave a name and number. Residents are asked not to return the call in an attempt to prevent a potential scam opportunity.

Van Winkle believes the scammers are trying to target people with a history with law enforcement.

Anyone who receives such a call should contact the Dearborn County Sheriff's Office at 812-537-8700.
