Ohio County Tourism Announces Holiday Activities, Events

There will be plenty to do throughout December.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - Rising Sun, Indiana: Ohio County Tourism in Rising Sun will be hosting a variety of holiday events and activities throughout the season.

The Visitors Center is accepting letters for Santa Claus through a special red mailbox located at the Visitors Center. Santa letter forms are available at the Center during normal business hours or by download at https://tinyurl.com/2mmfm2z6. No postage is required if dropped off at the red box located at the Visitors Center, 217 N. High Street, in Rising Sun.

Youths may write letters on their own paper, however, must include their name and address to receive a response.

Mail must be received by midnight on Tuesday, December 12, 2024.

The Merry Little Christmas Celebration will be held at the Visitors Center on Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 5-8 p.m. Santa will be in the Santa House from 5-7 p.m. Other activities include free carriage rides; visits with the Boots ‘N Mini Moo’s; arts & craft vendors; deejay J.D. Hughes playing songs of the season; and free hot chocolate and sugar cookies (while they last). The local scouts will be selling hot dog & hamburger meals as a fundraiser and Amanda’s Mobile Diner will have fruit pies for sale.

The Celebration is free and open to the public. The Visitors Center is located at 217 N. High Street in Rising Sun.

Tourism will be hosting the 8th annual Light Up Ohio County Residential Outdoor Holiday Decorating Contest and Light Trail. Entries are accepted from any resident of Ohio County. The deadline to apply is noon on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. Applications/guidelines are available at the Visitors Center or downloadable from tourism’s website at https://tinyurl.com/msp4fwew.

Prize money is $350 for first, $275 second, and $200 for third. Two honorable mentions of $100 each will be awarded at the judges’ discretion. Two neighborhood awards—Shiny & Bright and Holiday Cheer-- will receive bragging rights.
