OCCF Awards $76K To Non-Profit Organizations

A total of 17 non-profit organizations received grants.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - The Ohio County Community Foundation awarded a total of $76,176.28 to seventeen local non-profit organizations during the second grant cycle of 2019. The grants were funded through endowment funds established by donors with a vision to create perpetual charitable funds to be distributed in the form of grants to non-profit organizations whose services benefit the Ohio County community. The Ohio County Community Foundation awards grants in the areas of Community Development, Human Services, Education, Health and Cultural Affairs.

The following organizations received a grant. The endowments that funded the grants are recognized in the grant awards.

Ohio County Convention Tourism & Visitors Commission was awarded $4,500 towards the 2020 Blues and BBQ Event. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund.

Rising Sun Main Street was awarded $5,000 towards the printing of the 2020 Rising Sun Newsletter. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund and the Galbreath Vineyard Endowment Fund.

Rising Sun First Baptist Church was awarded $4,500 towards the 2020 Rising Sun After Prom event. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund and the Dennis & Angie Elliott Endowment Fund.

Rising Sun Ohio County School Corporation was awarded $4,725 to replace speakers at the school soccer and ball field. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund and the Rising Sun Rotary Endowment Fund.

Ohio County Youth Development, Inc. was awarded $5,000 towards the purchase of new vents and fans for 4-H barns. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund and the Donna Moore Community Fund.

Ohio County Phi Beta Psi-Theta Lamda Chapter was awarded $3,000 towards the implementation of their 2020 Spring Fundraising event. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund and the Barbara Ruxton Community Fund.

Rising Sun Ohio County Senior Citizens Housing, Inc. was awarded $5,000 to replace the existing Fire Alarm System Panel at the Hoosier Girl building. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund and the Henry & Dortha Curry Endowment Fund.

Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor’s Office for the Special Crimes Unit was awarded $2,508 to purchase flash drives and hard drives for Ohio County investigations. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund.

Bear Branch Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $4,948.28 towards the purchase of needed firefighting and safety equipment. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund.

Ohio County for the Ohio County Courthouse was awarded $4,770 to upgrade the surveillance/security system to the outside areas of the Courthouse. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund.

Rising Sun United Methodist Church was awarded $5,000 towards the replacement of the church roof. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund.

City of Rising Sun/City Council was awarded $4,725 to purchase an ice machine for the Schroeder Building and copiers for City Hall. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund and the Gene Siekman Memorial Endowment Fund.

River Valley Resources for the Education Center of Ohio County was awarded $2,500 for office supplies and Adult Testing Fees for HSE (High School Equivalency) exams for Ohio County residents. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund and the Ynez Taylor Community Fund.

Rising Sun Family Medicine Center was awarded $5,000 to purchase an EKG machine and medical instruments. Funded by the Dr. Art Jay Community Fund, the Amado Mauricio, MD Endowment Fund and the Ohio County Today and Tomorrow Endowment Fund.

Ohio County Historical Society was awarded $5,000 towards the construction of an educational flatboat. Funded by the Mike Padgett Community Fund and the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund.

Historic Hoosier Hills for the Conductors of Southeastern Indiana Model Train Association was awarded $5,000 to expand and enhance their current model train show. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund.

Shiner Pride Band Boosters was awarded $5,000 to purchase Broadway tickets for band students during the 2020 New York Band trip. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund, the Eunice Kittle Performing Arts Endowment Fund and the Todd Burgess Memorial Endowment Fund.
