Nugent Re-Elected To NRA Board Of Directors

State Sen. Johnny Nugent (R-Lawrenceburg)

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – What do Indiana State Senator and Lawrenceburg resident Johnny Nugent, NBA forward Karl Malone, rocker Ted Nugent, actor Tom Selleck, and retired U.S. Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North all have in common?

They serve on the 75-member National Rifle Association Board of Directors.

Nugent (R-Lawrenceburg) was recently re-elected to serve a third term on the NRA board, according to a news release. The local state senator was first elected to the board of directors in 2007 and is currently the only Hoosier on the board.

During his time at the Indiana Statehouse, Nugent has authored influential legislation such as the “Castle Doctrine.” Another law he wrote made Indiana the first and only state in the nation to approve a lifetime concealed-carry permit.

Even as the NRA stands at the center of a national debate on gun control, Nugent called it an honor to serve five million card-carrying members of the organization.

“In these times of uncertainty, I will continue working as a board member to protect our precious Second Amendment right to bear arms,” he said.

According to the release, Nugent will be recognized at the annual meeting of NRA members in Houston, Texas, on May 4 and will join other board members for their meeting on May 6 and 7.
